How to add a gym membership to Apple Wallet

If your gym makes you open a slow membership app at the door, turn its barcode into a native Apple Wallet pass. It will be ready from the lock screen and can sync to Apple Watch.

Quick answer: open the gym membership barcode, take a clear screenshot, import it into Img2Wallet and add the generated pass to Apple Wallet.

Before you start

This works best when the gym uses a static barcode or QR code. If the code visibly changes every few seconds, it may be a rotating security credential and a screenshot-based pass will not remain valid. Always follow the gym's membership rules.

Step by step

  1. Open your membership card. Find the screen in the gym app that staff normally scan.
  2. Take a clean screenshot. Keep the complete barcode visible and avoid pop-ups covering it. For a plastic card, photograph it straight-on in good light.
  3. Import the image. Open Img2Wallet and select the screenshot or photo.
  4. Name the pass. Use the gym name so it is easy to identify in Wallet.
  5. Add it to Apple Wallet. Generate the pass, confirm it and test it at your next visit while keeping the original app available as a fallback.

Using it at the entrance

Double-press the side button, select the pass and present its barcode to the scanner. Img2Wallet includes a maximum-brightness option for scanners that struggle with dim screens. A pass added to Wallet also appears on a paired Apple Watch when Wallet syncing is available.

When it may not work

  • The gym rotates or refreshes its barcode.
  • The scanner requires NFC rather than a visible code.
  • The membership terms prohibit copying the credential.
  • The original screenshot is blurred, cropped or heavily compressed.
